Radiator fan turns on when hooked up to power but will not crank

Post by CadinVolvo11 »

I have a Volvo 850 turbo that I have just bought, and there seem to be some electrical issues. The battery isn't bringing any power to the car so when hooking it up to a charger the Rad fan immediately turns on, and the AC keeps turning on and off regardless if it's turned on or off. The last thing is that when I turn the key over there is no ignition at all, and the dash seems to dim. I have done some research and have only seen one post about it being the ECU sensor.

Check and verify the ECT (Engine Coolant temp sensor) hasn't went south (assuming your year has it, but I'm not fully familiar with your year...) It will cause the radiator fan to immediately come on if I'm not mistaken. This can be tested.

In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.
