Hi All, 98 S70 na auto 135 K miles
Thanks in advance.
I think this is several problems. Remote went out, then LED on dash, for alarm system went out. Figured it was the battery & lamp had burnt out.
Intermittenly orange flashing arrow, check engine light. P0410 I checked under hood and found radiator leaking into the coolant overflow tank. Code and flashing arrow cleared. A few times the code reader reported no stored or pending codes, but had the flashing arrow/P0410. The reader would clear both lights, which is strange to me.
New Behr radiator, new coolant, new ATF. Code, and arrow came back up, filled up ATF and codes cleared.
Lady backed into me, bent front fender, and broke plastic holding pieces so have to replace the right front turn signal lamp assembly. No leaks or any other damage that I can see. Insurance writing the car off at $1900.
New battery for remote that used to work, not working now.
Went through car wash and now trunk lock froze up? and now I cant get key into the trunk lock.
I tried horn, does not work, but fuse is good, changed out several good fuses, still didnt work. I've no idea how long the horn has been out. Maybe tied into alarm system? Checked ATF, looks good, full.
I just unhooked battery and will touch pos & neg cables together to reset ECU.
Tomorrow I'm going to local junkyard to pull trunk lock mechanism, some relays, right front turn signal assembly.
I wonder if I should be pulling the alarm module?
I'd appreciate good suggestions, thanks.
Jack

That code is a secondary air system code, nothing to do with the arrow
Get some lubricant and that key will work, sounds frozen with water
The alarm horn and car horn are separate on these cars

Depending on how bad the ice is on the lock - a hair dryer may be able to assist the thawing process on the exterior. Don't get it too hot or you'll start stripping paint.

HI Thanks abscate, Thanks wizechatmanager,
Tried the alarm system by reaching through the locked car door with the window down, and opened the door with no alarm, or horn or lights. So no horn when pressing it or through alarm system.
I forgot i bought and used de icer on front driver door and trunk, driver door lock works fine.
All fuses in main fuse box and 30 + fuses in 2ndary fuse box good. Maybe relays under the drivers side kick panel are bad?
Thanks
Jack

No offense intended, but your car, like mine, is very unlikely to be stolen. Except maybe by another Volvo enthusiast...

Is the system arming? When you lock the car, the lights should flash once. If any door or hood is open the alarm won't set. It could be one of the door or hood sensors is wonky so the car thinks one is open

The horn for the alarm is mounted to the firewall by the top torque mount. That horn regularly fails. I've given up trying to get them to work. The horns at the front of the car also fail with age as they are exposed. Have read of someone doing an autopsy on them and managed to resurrect them. But check the connectors for corrosion on them first.
The main horn button can also be a problem if someone had the steering wheel off and removed/refitted it incorrectly. Robert (rspi) has a video on the issue which is very worthwhile watching on his youtube website.

Do the four ways blink when you open the door after it has been locked for a bit? Reason I ask is I know my siren/horn doesn't work, but my lights flash still indicating the car has been breached.

Do the power locks work using the interior switches?
Does the car make any noise if you leave the keys in the ignition?

Hi all,
Interior locks work with interior switch & key. It’s the trunk lock that is damaged. Getting 1 & the key from the local salvage yard. Had the flashing arrow &code show up, but no code on reader. But code reader will erase the code.
Today did the3rd Drain & very carefully refilled auto transmission, no orange flashing arrow, yay! That was the most important item.
Found hood sensor, jumpered, may grab 1 at salvage yard.
Thanks all
Jack
