I need a 12V switched wire to hardwire my Valentine One.
How can I identify a good wire choice?
Which is closest to the driver's side?

S60R: wiring diagram ???
you can use a voltmeter to find em. Or if you can wait until tomorrow I can check mine and give you the colors of the right wires. It's 11:53pm, and I'm gonna get some sleep -- don't really feel like ripping out my stereo right now :p
Yes, but that may require quite a bit more disassembly of my dash than I have time for ;>potroast wrote:you can use a voltmeter to find em.
Certainly, I can wait. Thank you, for your consideration in this matter.potroast wrote:Or if you can wait until tomorrow I can check mine and give you the colors of the right wires.
Does this really require removing the stereo from the dash? Can it be done from underneath?potroast wrote:It's 11:53pm, and I'm gonna get some sleep -- don't really feel like ripping out my stereo right now :p
I do not know how to release the stereo from the dash. More importantly, I do not want to mar nor harm the dash in any way.
Thank you, again. I appreciate the effort and advice.

I have an aftermarket stereo (needed in-dash CD w/changer support, XM, preouts, and all the goodies) so removing my stereo is a little bit more involed. However, removing the stock Volvo unit is extremely easy.
There should be two vertical bars on the unit, one on each edge. These are spring-loaded, similar to the button on a ball-point pen. Pushing these in will cause them to protrude out of the unit, and you can use them as a handle to slide the head unit out from the dash. No dash assembly is required -- and you can easily get wires into the area by threading them through the access portals underneath both the passenger and drivers dash. Truely a great design. You can use the radio molex connector to test with your voltmeter, and you'll only have to cut the wire when you know what it is, and it'll be easy to splice to (use solder and heatshrink tube!)
I just dropped my Volvo off at the mechanic to get a tune-up so I'll see if I wrote down the harness colors to give to you. Otherwise I'll re-check them in my volvo, which should be back later today, barring a catastrophy at the shop.

Remember to locate your radio code (on a card that comes with the owners' manual kit probably) before you take it out!
Or else you'll be one of the legions of code-less music lovers that emails me almost daily, asking for help getting the code
. I don't mind helping them by pointing them to a Volvo dealer, it's just that I can't get codes myself.

Which model are you driving?potroast wrote:I have an aftermarket stereo (needed in-dash CD w/changer support, XM, preouts, and all the goodies) so removing my stereo is a little bit more involed. However, removing the stock Volvo unit is extremely easy.
This sounds easy; but, my HU-803 appears quite sleek. I do not find, or misunderstand, the "vertical bars" you mention?potroast wrote:There should be two vertical bars on the unit, one on each edge. Plus, the underdash is really sealed in this car. Yes, it's vinyl/plastic, and probably snaps off fairly easily -- once I know where the snap fasteners are located. I tend to pull on wrong areas first time through this stuff, and I do not want to break anything ;<
What do you think?
I just need a 12V switched hot wire, and a ground screw. The S60R is a negative ground electrical system -- right? I want to use the piggy-back wiring-harness connector that came with the Valentine One, and which I used successfully on my DTS.potroast wrote:I just dropped my Volvo off at the mechanic to get a tune-up so I'll see if I wrote down the harness colors to give to you. Thank you, again and again, for your patience and kind help.

I am hoping that this only applies if I disconnect the wiring harness? Or, is there some kind of anti-theft interlock that disables the stereo when it's removed from the dash?matthew1 wrote:Remember to locate your radio code (on a card that comes with the owners' manual kit probably) before you take it out!
