BCM replacement/TRACS

Post by gojo3358 »

ABS brake light was on constantly, mechanic stated it was the BCM most likely. I found one on EBAY that was rebuilt and ordered. Significant discount of sending my unit to company for rebuild/repair.
Replaced unit today and the warning lights are no longer showing on dash.
I was told that the vehicle computer has to be flashed to work properly, is this statement true?
Also, I have a "anti skid " warning on drivers information center. Last question, does the BCM have anything to do with traction control system?

Any help would be appreciated:)

No but the DCT codes are still stored as active or inactive. The ones that stay active after the repair need to be cleared.
It is a good idea to clear inactive ones also, so somebody won't be chasing ghost in the future.

Last question, does the BCM have anything to do with traction control system?

Yes, that is why there are two versions of the BCM, one for cars with traction control and one for cars without traction control.
Did you get the BCM for cars with traction control?

Not sure....(Part removed was 8671224)
Replacement part numbers on unit: 8671224, 02w222, 10.0925-0403.3, 1HF2E28D81, 5WK84002.

Can't find anything that tells me for sure.

I do not have a "DTSC" button on my vehicle. The drivers information center reads "anti-skid maintenance" required......

Ah shoot! looked it up, it is the right BCM (Hardware wise) but, that BCM has to be programed to your vehicle’s options.

Some but not all suppliers can and will pre-programmed it to your vehicle’s options. Did your supplier pre-programmed to your your vehicle’s options and the VIN number? If not, you need to get it programed.

Software program transfer service is $250.00 at XeMODeX.

The only reference I found on the process involved open the BCM, setting it to program mode then flashing the ROM. Naturally one would need to have the correct ROM image to do this.

Some people have done swaps with these BCMs but the trick is to swap between vehicles with identical options.

If your going to do your own work, I suggest you get Vida-Dice. You can get a package with the full chip Dice on eBay for ~$80.00.

You can save all that trouble by going to mattymoo at MIDWESTABS. Unless the eBay guy has 10000 references he's probably just selling junkyard parts.

Edit...less than helpful, MIDWEST is -2001 per their FAQ

Took a look at Midwest ABS, they do pre-2001 non-programmable modules.
