1996 960 Vacuum Lines

Post by correllkp »

Trying to fix a problem with car vents not being selectable...i.e., no air through vents. I removed the glove box to see behind the climate control unit and could see the arm that controls the flaps that should move when selecting different postitions not moving at all so suspect a vacuum problem or the CCU.

Some heat leaks through the vents but not enough...especially when it is-5 degrees here in New England.
The blower motor works at all levels so not likely the resistor problem.
Cruise control works so guessing vacuum is ok.
I suppose it could be the climate control unit but would like to make sure it is not some other common problem before I replace that unit.

If I'm not mistaken there's vacuum check valve coming from the tee at the intake manifold that supplies vacuum to the climate control system.

Thanks for the replies. Tried the built in self check in 93Regina's post...at first it showed code 111 (no fault) but then the vents appeared to start working...could hear a big clunk noise at first...probably have not moved in a while and were stuck. Not sure the vents are cooperating fully yet. With the heat set to max the output is warm but not really hot. Tried the self test again and now flashes the code for the sunlight sensor. I think I will try covering the sensor to see what happens. I don't think it is the heater core since I do get various levels of warm air (just not hot air) and I am not losing any fluid anywhere...at least I hope it is not the heater core.
