Durenol...check out this thread on your car, check your vin, and see if this applies!! ( I think you are in one of these states). You might be covered until 2022 with your driving pattern!

You know.... I was wondering about that. It got put there within minutes of me posting it. I was really confused, but you have a lot of maintenance-advice threads permanently stickied so I figured you'd done the same with this one.

As for the PZEV, that link says the list is for MY06 and changes each MY for each state. This XC70 is MY07: engine code 59, emissions code 2, and is in MA. Anyone have any info on that?

You need engine code 39 in MA to be PZEV covered. Make sure you get the code right!

I probably ft fingered the thread into an announcement one day

Just to make sure I know what I'm talking about, the engine code is the 6th and 7th characters in the VIN, right? That's definitely 59 for this car. Again, that post you linked to only talks about 2006 and says it can be different for each year. Was '59' never a PZEV number in MA?

No. A 59 is ALWAYS a standard 2.5T.
You must be tired of all this writing, I think you should sell it to me.
What color is it anyway?

You can probably go 2 years between oil changes with no problems - are you getting it up to full operation temperature once a week or once a month?

Use full synthetic oil only with a turbo
I completely disagree. If the car is (properly) being stored and only started once every month or two, then I would agree with you.
However it's being driven, seldomly, but driven.
Change the oil ALWAYS WITH FULL SYNTHETIC every year. Averaged out over a year, this is cheap enough insurance.

With that in mind it is quite possibly better for the car if it is left standing rather than being driven short trips just because you feel like it needs to be driven.

It doesn't really sound like the car is needed but rather kept for a rainy day.

My low mile per year turbo convertible (3000 miles or so) gets driven up to full operating temperature every two weeks - I change oil every other year with full synthetic.

Im not sure of the exact driving pattern here - ergo the request for more information

The manual that came with this car says conventional once a year, but almost everyone we talked to said either to switch to conventional every 6 months or full synthetic ever year. We've been trying to do synthetic (+filter) every 6 months spring and fall just to be on the safe side, but sometimes we forget and it ends up being like 9 months or until the auto dashboard reminder goes off. Right now we skipped the fall change because we're trying to save for all the belt/fluid stuff it looks like it needs.
