headlight wiper motor repair
I had to switch out the headlight wiper motor on my 2000 S70. After reading and lots of research all I could find was that you had to take most of the front bumper covers, bumper etc. etc. off to get at the motor on one side. I thought this is utterly ridiculous just to change a motor for the wiper. So, I got out my Dremel with a small cutting attachment and carefully cut a nice rectangular piece out of the black plastic that was on top of the bolts that I need to get out, leaving enough room to pull the motor out. I then put a 10mm socket on the two bolts and out came the old motor very easily. I installed the new motor and then sat the plastic piece I had cut out back in place. Now comes my soldering iron to melt all the plastic I cut together for a nice solid fit. It's just as strong as before and you can't even see it once everything is put back together anyways. Thought I'd post this to try to simplify this task for people, the whole process took under 45 minutes, not 4 or 5 hours and eliminated the headache. There is absolutely nothing structural with this small piece of plastic I cut out.

When I did my last radiator RR on my 1999 V70, I cut two one inch holes in the rad apron to undo the M6 bolts on the upper sandwich - that probably saved me about an hour of horrible 1/16 of a turn at time wrenching with a box end to get those, which let be drop the radiator right down, leaving the condenser and intercooler in place ( I held them up with a zip tie)
I put two plugs in from Lowes but cementing in the round piece with either JB or plastic welding would have been cooler

Although harder than an 850 it can be done on a V/C/S70 just like an 850 by removing the plastic slam panel behind the headlights.
Remove the 2 x headlights and side lights (6 x 10mm bolts for the 2 headlights) and then you can remove the 7 (?) x 10mm bolts for the slam panel itself. I use a 10mm ratcheting wrench (not a socket). A little fiddly on the 3 in the center behind the bumper but if my fat hands can do it yu should be able to also.
Undo the 2 x 8mm bolts or Torx screws on holding the radiator shroud to the slam panel on the rear of the radiator.
Use some thick duct tape or the likes under the leading edge of each front fender above where the sidelights fit to protect the paint when removing the slam panel. Remove the 2 x headlight wiper arms (carefully raise the plastic cover over the end of the wiper shaft. Use silicon oil to lube the plastic and carefully leaver the back of it to flip it up to access the 8mm nut holding the arm on). Leave the nut on a couple of threads and use adjustable pliers to break the headlight wiper arm loose from the splines by fitting one side of the pliers on the nut and the other behind the arm. You can then remove each arm. You may have to be a little rough to get the slam panel clear due to the 'overhangs on the front of each fender but the tape should protect the paint.
Now you can access both wiper motors to remove.
Undo the 2 x 10mm bolts from each motor and remove. You may find it difficult on some cares as there is a metal bracket that one of the headlight bolts uses as a support. This has a bilt at the base that allows it to be removed or you can bend it out of the way.
If you pull a spare motor from another P80, be aware the 850 and V/S/C 70 motors have different shaft lengths. If you open the motors to re-furbish/grease them, you can exchange the shafts.
Neil.
