If the car is non turbo, it would be as a own preference. I have a non turbo engine, and run on synthetic (switched from mineral). My reasoning is the following: on synthetic I can extend the oil change interval compared with using a mineral oil. The synthetic oil can be kept for more miles than the mineral oil. Maybe not double the miles, but more non the less. Plus, the additives in the mineral oil degrade with time regardless of the miles, so a mineral oil should be changed twice yearly. I change my synthetic once a year as long as I don't do too many miles (usually less than 6000 yearly)

This is exactly why I went to synthetic on my 96 non-turbo, grocery getter. I change its oil right about once a year now, plus this way I already have the oil on hand because I use it in the P80 turbo cars too. I change my oil about every 60 days during the warmer months with full synthetic. That's about every 10,000 miles. lol Both of my cars are turbo.

5000 miles/month ? Those engines will get the mileage they deserve. I just feel bad when a 150K miles engine goes to the junk yard knowing the thing could have gone at least 200K more.

I saw a 740 at the junkyard just today with only 152k on it. It's crazy how people just drop cars there that are in great shape and low mileage.
Then a 960 with 225ish that just had the timing belt done, and had one of the cleanest junkyard engine bays I've ever seen.

I forgot to mention that i have a non turbo.
Also, my mileage is roughly 600 miles per year. Yes that's per year, so around 50 miles per month.
That is averaged over a three year period as many months i'll go less than that.

I'd change that yearly with only 600 miles - if only to get the moisture and potentially any slowly forming acid/sludge out.
