It's only sold by the liter, sorry. The only ones left not using the metric system are Burma, Liberia, and the USA.
Wait, Burma has converted.

That's just a courtesy to the minority. In reality it's slowly dying inside because of the absence of liters.

My mom does about 1200 per year. Only 7,200 in 4.5 years.wizechatmgr wrote: ↑26 Feb 2018, 02:48 I'd change that yearly with only 600 miles - if only to get the moisture and potentially any slowly forming acid/sludge out.
When I went to Blackstone Labs they told me that an oil change every 3 years were fine. I have her do one per year. Cheap insurance. Plus she still has a warranty.

Once every three years sounds crazy to me. All those short distance trips is sure to foul the oil with fuel, and a paper filter after three years? While im currently living on an island I have nothing but short trips since there are no "highways". I might drive 3000 miles in a year in my non volvo vehicle. I change the oil every 4 months and it always comes out like 100% Colombian dark roast coffee.

Thanks for thinking about me guys. Us poor Canadians have to take everything we can while NAFTA is still working. Once Mr. Trump cancels that our borders will close and everything will be even more ripped off up here!
I have done about 11,000km in the 'R' in about 5 1/2 years (about 1200-1400 miles a year) but generally change it once a year with Castrol Edge synthetic 5W-40 and Volvo filter (I read June's interesting thread on the so-called synthetics we get sold here), but with the temp variations we can get (-40C to +30C) it makes sense to run the synthetic oil for the cold starts. Having said that, my 'R' only did about 1000km last year as I was fed up with the suspension issues, so I did not change the oil. Will get around to doing that now the road out of our neighborhood has finally had the 8" packed ice ruts plowed down.
For what it cost v's an engine, it still makes sense to change once/year even on low mileage cars in case of fuel drain down even if it is dino oil you use.
Neil.

Just the color or the consistency too? I've seen some thin oil... like 15k-mile old Corolla oil. Nasty stuff... and no, it wasn't my car!
But... the real question here is does it taste like Colombian dark roast coffee?
I'll have to search around for some threads on a liter swap...
I agree, the fuel dilution would be my biggest concern. For cars that aren't often driven, I'd still change the oil yearly for that extra security.

I see you guys have pretty rough time nowadays with the winter temperatures. The Polar Vortex thing. An even better oil for really cold starts (besides, why are we always looking for 'even better'? must be a human thing...) is the same Edge but in 0W-40 grade (it sells at Canadian Tire in 5L jugs which should be enough for an oil change and sells for like $35 with rebate) or 0W-30 Edge (unfortunately this one only sells by pints and doesn't get rebate). The tiny little secret (must be kept secret) is that, all Edge oil sold in the North America is actually made here, locally, except for the two 0W-40 and 0W-30 grades which are made AND bottled one in Germany, the other I believe in Belgium. I'm not going to say more, just see the rear sticker on the bottle, will give an idea. Again, this must stay confidential (so we can still find them when the prices are reduced).

I drive a 1996 Toyota 4runner running Castrol 5w30. It goes in amber and comes out like liquid charcoal but still about the same viscosity.bmdubya1198 wrote: ↑26 Feb 2018, 16:27Just the color or the consistency too?
