After years of occasional modifications to my beloved 2001 c70 coupe; and because I now get to drive it on a local race course (VIR), I want to upgrade to better brakes. Specifically, I already possess rear 2005 s60r calipers and mounting brackets and will probably purchase Stoptech ST40m 332X32 front brakes.
BUT...I can`t mount them unless I already have wheels and tires that will fit over them. No company is sure. Neither IPD not Tirerack can state that their product will fit.
I cannot buy one without knowing the answer to the other...
I would prefer to stay with a 17x8 rim but will go with 18x8 if I have to. (Ride comfort is crappy and wheel damage is more likely with a 40 aspect ratio tire. Then there is the offset. And even then, sometimes it is just the shape of the wheel spokes that matter...
So, does anyone out there know more about this cunumdrum?
Help/wisdom would be appreciated.
What size/offset wheels will clear s60r(rear) and stoptech st-40m(front) big brake kits on my 2001 c70 coupe?? Topic is solved

Hate to send you elsewhere, but some of the guys on Swedespeed do a lot of modifications to their cars, including using Porsche brakes on modified brackets. I'm sure they would have more info on what fits. I can tell you on Volvo stuff on standard stuff, but modified stuff I'm out my depth.

So...Thru some trial and error, and conversations with fellow enthusiasts as well as staff at Discount Tire, I have mounted StopTech brakes ST-40 332x32 and found wheels that fit.
See photos.![Image]()
My stock rims are 17x7.5 with a 42mm offset. They will fit over the StopTechs...BUT...only with H&R 15mm spacers and longer wheel bolts. However, after talking with a Discount Tire helpful person, I found a beautiful set of TSW Nurburgring 17x8 wheels that fit direct bolt on, no spacers required.
I wanted to stay with the 17" diameter wheel in order to have a 45 aspect ratio tire...to absorb more road bumps and potholes. With an already lowered and stiff suspension, going with 18" rims and a 40 aspect ratio tire, the ride would potentially be too severe.
Sorry, no photo of the new wheels yet. What you see on the car are my Volvo originals.

Mods, can you move this to the wheel and tire forum for safekeeping?
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
