Busted Mirror Assembly.

Post by Gjit09 »

Hey MVS,

Was out of town for a few days the other week and let my mom use the good ol' volvo to take the kids to and from school.
Upon arriving home I was told that my sister backed the car up the drive way and mistakenly (so I'm told) brushed against my dads Chevy Silverado and now I'm left with a completely dismantled side mirror assembly on the drivers side.

Looking forward to replacing this now!

Anyways, the assembly itself is still attached to the car and will not move or respond to the mirror adjustment switch from inside the car. Mirror is completely busted out and the shell has come off along with the blinker. (Light still works thankfully :P)
Any help is appreciated with this process if anyone is familiar.
I guess my door trim is coming off? Thats what ive been noticing in youtube videos of people changing their side mirrors. Any advice appreciated, again, thanks.

Welcome!

Is this the new design with the floating center console?

If it's rather the old design, I think the triangular trim piece inside the car can be removed but carefully as it has three clips which regularly like to break. Just go gently. Behind there are a few bolts which I believe secure the mirror. I'd have the car battery disconnected just in case, before unplugging the mirror (have the headlights on when disconnecting/connecting the battery, with the key in ignition pos II).

Door trim has to come off first to disconnect the wires from the PDM. Then pop the small plastic triangle off and just do the one large bolt in the middle and it's off. It's very quick and easy. I've never bothered to disconnect the battery for taking the doors apart but I guess careful is never wrong either.

For the door trim if I'm not wrong, on the later models the handle will have like a center piece which will pop up to reveal the torx bolts underneath.

Both my -00 S80 and -04 V70 have had that screw but in difference places. V70 had it inside the big door handle, I'm guessing that didn't change for later P2 models.
