Need help with running rough at idle

Post by Surf »

So I have read through all the forums and took all your advice, (very much appreciated). Changed MAF sensor, replaced coil packs and plugs, and cleaned the throttle body. No change. Please help!!! One more thing, not sure if it is an issue or not. The cam exhaust solenoid is makeing a buzzing noise for a minute or two after shutting down the engine... is this normal?

You replaced all these parts based on symptoms or were error codes thrown/read and then parts changed?

If codes were read, please post so folks can assist with a little more granularity.

Engine management relay remains energized for a minute after the engine is shut off I believe which supplies +B to the VVT solenoids. However the ground path is controlled through the ECM and should be 'off' during this time. If it's buzzing that would indicate current flow through the solenoid. So you're looking at 1 of 3 scenarios. 1 and 2 more likely, 3 less likely but possible: 1. Solenoid is shorting to ground internally, 2. wiring between solenoid and the ECU is shorted to ground, 3. Control circuit inside the ECU has failed (resulting in current flow through the solenoid after the engine is turned off).
