2002 Volvo S60 boost issue etc.

Post by Juicebox »

Hey guys josh here, been lurking around for years but finally decided to join I’m on my 3rd Volvo previously owned a a 850 manual and a s70 i now have a s60t5m that I’ve wanted because I couldnt Afford a R like I wanted. Long story short I bought The car two years ago towed it home due to strut and wheel bearing over the last two years it has lost power significantly, other then oil changes I’ve done a o2 and a evap solenoid I threw a code for the TCV months ago it was overboosting blowing the piping off once or twice while on it. I changed It to another junkyard one and it’s just not the same it seems like it’s not blowing off as much either? I decided To hook up a Bosch boost gauge and I’m ready -15 vacuum at idle and -10 on it so it’s literally negative? Im not turbo pro but somethings not right and the car doesn’t use oil, smoke or tick. Anyone have any input on this? Could the tcv cause this all? Thanks in advance guys. - Josh

Did the code for the TCV come back?
Have you tried adjusting the wastegate?
Set the preload. See youtube videos.

It did come back. I’ll try to adjust it. What would cause it to come out of adjustment

Is everything stock on the car? I doubt hoses popped dup to overboost, the clamps and hoses probably failed.

Bone stock minus a cold air. It blew up twice left side from intercooler (while standing in front ) after I changed The TCV it didn’t happen again. I plab On ordering a CBV and TVC from ipd and the tcv hose kit and go over and check all the piping.

On mine the coupler wore a deep slot into the wastegate actuator pin. Fixed it by putting a sleeve over the wastegate actuator pin and drilling the hole in the coupler to fit the slightly larger sleeve.

If there's no pre-load on the coupling it will rattle and cause wear. There's a spring inside the vac actuator that keeps it under tension. The spring weakens in time and the arm is threaded at the coupler to accommodate wear.

Just grab the wastegate arm and see if you can wiggle it. If its under tension with engine off I'd look elsewhere. If the photo appears you can see the preload , set it so the rod has to be pulled out to fit over the pin.
I found the sleeve in my junk drawer, red loctited it onto the pin.
