- For those who don't like my chopsticks trick...

- There is the "copper pipe" trick LOL...

- Many years ago, I used to own a 1983 BMW E23 735i, I was short of budget and the hood kept falling on my head when there is a breeze, so I came up with this trick:

a. Get a 3/4-inch copper pipe at hardware store.
Measure the length you need so you can buy correct length.

b. Cut to correct length, then slide it in the strut, crimp one end so it is trapped inside the strut "rod end".

c. The copper pipe slides over the "body of the strut" when the hood is closed.

d. When you pop the hood, just slide the copper pipe as shown, insert a screw inside so the pipe does not slide sideways (i.e. it is locked in place). You can hide the screw in a hole nearby the engine.

- If you take your Volvo strut, FLIP it around upside down so the strut's BODY faces UPWARD, then you can use this copper pipe trick.

Here is the BMW photo...

I ordered two 6 millimeter (M6) ball studs from amazon

https://www.amazon.com/2Pcs-10mm-Struts ... ive&sr=1-1

then went to my local hardware store and got two metal 6mm washers and nuts and attached the ball studs to the lower and upper existing 6mm holes under the hood (opposite side of the existing hood strut). I purchased the actual hood strut from my local Volvo part store / in Atlanta Voluparts:

It seems to fit and work great. Cheers.

- Bought a new Stabilus Hood Strut for $11 (FCPEuro dot com) for the 2007 S60, which came with single strut.
The single strut works fine.

- So, I have a quarter-round molding piece of wood (the molding used at the bottom of the baseboard trim in the house)
lying around.

- Cut to 16" long, and make a tip (for the hole in the hood) and a notch (for the stud on suspension tower).
When not in used, I store the wood stick in the trunk.

- This is what it looks like...

PS: For quick oil check or adding engine oil etc., no need for the wood stick bc the single hood strut can hold it up.
For long jobs (timing belt, water pump etc.), I'd recommend the use of this additional wood support, just to safe (not fun
to have the hood coming down on your head!)...
