2006 S40 2.4i Radio Problems

Hi all,

I Recently bought a 2006 Volvo s40 2.4i. The issue I am having with my radio seems to be somewhat common and have tried several things to see if i can resolve it with no luck. I can describe it as a bad radio antenna signal issue. I have tried the 6 disc DC player, and it works good and the sound is great using a CD(the screen says premium sound system).

I have tried a new (used) trunk amp, a used CD deck unit and two antenna amplifiers ( the green box that connects to the rear glass for antenna signal). I even went as far ad making my own converter cable for the Motorola to "volvo" side (9v battery end) and connected an aftermarket standard radio antenna to see if my issue was the antenna( rear glass). I get certain FM stations when car is parked (I live in NJ right outside NYC) that are close to me with "okay" reception but goes in an out and static when i start driving. I have swapped the CD deck with the one I got a Junk Yard and the same stations work on each one. AM stations don't even work.

One thing which I do find confusing is that when I have an FM station going with okay reception, if I unplug either end of the wires from the antenna amplifier (glass connection or the coaxial look wires), the signal/reception does not change at all, even for all 3 of the antenna amplifiers I have.

I have a feeling it can be a bad ground, as at one point when I had the door open and closed it, the reception went from good to bad when I closed the drivers door. Or possibly with my luck, I got a bad unit from the junkyard.

My CD player part number is 30752575-1 if this info helps, and the CD deck in my car was factory rebuilt in 2010 from a sticker on it.

I have no clue except what you're saying leads me to believe the lines to the antenna are somehow cut or disturbed where they pass through the door area. I'd take a multimeter and try to see if there is continuity in the wiring, following it back from the window as well as from the radio. Sorry but I do not have a diagram for this, but maybe someone here does and can chime in.
