2006 Volvo S40 FM radio problem

2006 Volvo S40 FM radio problem

So i just bought my 2006 Volvo S40 2.4i and I found out that whenever I am a reasonable distance from my city center my FM radio goes out of reception, but at a distance that it should still pick up the radio atleast my cars in the past have. Even when driving in the city it periodically goes in and out of reception and most of the time is mixed with static. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem or not. I have it scheduled to go into the dealership on Saturday but want to go in possibly knowing some information so that they don't charge me an arm and leg for the repair since the warranty has expired. Please let me know!

So i took the car into the shop today and they said that it is a possible radio and amplifier failure. The repair cost is estimated at $750.00. Does anyone have any advise.
