Anyone interested in vinyl wrapping info?

Won’t be a Volvo, but I’m going to be wrapping my Saab 9-5 shortly. I’d gladly put up pics and tips if anyone is interested. I hit a deer over the winter, got a new hood and fixed the fender but the whole car could really use some attention. It’s straight but the paintjob is showing it’s age. I don’t want to spend the time or money to repaint it, plasti dip is ghetto, so wrapping seems like the happy medium.

I have wondered if wapping would be a fix for my peeling roof rails. Unfortunately Volvo is out of stock rails. Yes keep us posted. June

Ordered enough to do a fender to see if I like the color. Went with Avery gloss dark blue metallic. Should be here in a few days, I’ll post some pics and hopefully be ordering a roll if the color is good.

I had my roof wrapped and the installer didn't even bother to wash the surface before installing it, but I only found out after I picked up the car. I felt completely scammed and chalked it up to 'lesson learned'. Make sure you wash & clay any surface that will be wrapped or it'll stick out like a sore thumb and you'll have to do it all over again.

We're coming up on the four year anniversary and It's gotten a little faded. Not sure if it's the brand that was used or if it's common for a wrap to fade. Either way, it was garage-kept most of the time so you might want to look into that. I plan on having it redone this summer so I'll be digging into the topic more and more. Might even attempt to do it myself.

I think the overall outcome has a lot to do with prep work. I’ve painted a ton of cars so it’s going to get prepped like I’m spraying it, minus the sanding. I was worried a little about the fading like you mentioned, but I’ve tracked down a few guys who have the same product on their cars, one is six years in and it still looks really good. Has some rock chips and a little lifting in a bumper seam, but overall it seems to have held up well. Do you maintain yours with anything special?

Is it just the roof? Can the whole car be covered? Volvo discontinued my roof rails and the clear is peeling. My garage has been taken over and for 3.5 years my car sits outside. It seems to me the paint would be protected under the wrap.

I have wondered if wapping would protect my car until I can have a garage I can use, or minimally cover the rails so the car looks great again. How does it come out looking and can the car be washed? June

Also can the color of the car be changed with wrapping? I sure miss the Nordic Blue paint of my 2002 S80

My car is Passion Red from the factory and I had just the roof and the B pillars wrapped in black but yes; you can wrap the whole car and yes, pretty much any color you can think of can be found in a wrap.

Wrap will look more like a new paint job compared to PlastiDip but will cost more than it and should be done by a shop - unless you're only going to do small sections, then it might be worth tinkering around to see what you can do. Wrap will cover up any peeling clearcoat but it won't stop it from continuing to peel.
