Cam seals

Post by dha89 »

I'm replacing my cam seals and i need the job done in a couple days so I don't have time to order the locking tool for the back of the cams to remove the vvt hub. Does anybody know a good way to make your own or any possible way to do without. I made one but it bent when trying to break the hub bolt loose.

I would bite the bullet and buy the tool. The tool has special teeth fit into the camshafts and can only be orientated one way.

88 ft lbs of torque on that VVT hub bolt. It'd suck if your tool failed during the re torquing process.

Buying a $90 tool for a $10 part sucks though.

Yea it does but the money's not the main problem. It's time. I need the car in a couple days. The soonest I can get the tool is a week and a half

Well I wouldn't say no issue. I'm not rich by no means. Haha. It's just time is the main concern. Thanks tho I'll definitely check into that

- There is no other way around this, you need the locking tools. It is only $50.
- Why the hurry, most front cam seals are just dripping and not massive hemorrhage.
- Get Uber etc. if the leak is massive.

I'd rent a car and do the cam job right.
Or pay a mechanic.
