Still though. Doesn't look like 65 mph of head on force was absorbed there. Not in itself something to be the least sad about though :)

Looking at the second set of photos, I personally don't see that as being enough force in the direct straight ahead direction so signal a deployment, the car looks as though it's absorbed the impact enough to be well under the trigger threshold

Airbags always need to deploy when there is a risk of serious injury when the occupants force direction is toward the airbags. The airbags should NEVER deploy if a low likelihood of mitigation of injury by airbag is GROSSLY outweighed by the significant chance that occupant force direction is such that airbags would cause further harm to occupants.
Seatbelts, futhermore, tensioning seatbelts, are the best coverage for things outside the inflatable device coverages.

When I had a side impact last November all airbags deployed on that side. Not others.

Deploying front airbag can actually kill you if safety belt does not keep you in place.
