I replaced the entire units awith sealed LED modules. The old ones weren't in very good shape.. The LEDs still look like new after two years.Georgeandkira wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 06:07 Those rear license plate light sockets:
Need to be inspected frequently because the socket doesn't seat into the "fixture" securely. Moisture gets in.
All bulbs and sockets like dielectric grease. This lowers resistance, heat, warpage thus benefitting the whole system apparently.
Of paramount importance is the correct 5W5 (and so many other numbers) bulb NOT a 193 (3 watt) or 194 (4 watt) bulb. These older style bulbs have thinner bases and may light up when installed. They always shake loose and cause buzz and heat.
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

A T10 LED bulb may also fit in there
They seem to snap into the existing sockets, but wouldn't it be a problem if the actual sockets are already shorted/damaged ?
This is a better price for a new complete unit

Exactly like that. It's actually got a seal around the edge that the original plastic lamp doesn't have as well.oragex wrote: ↑23 Apr 2018, 18:14 Like this? https://www.aliexpress.com/store/produc ... 42659.html

A T10 will also fit since but as you say if the fitting or glass is in poor condition that won't help much.

Here's the video with the DIY replacement of the bulb sockets
I will also be doing soon a DIY video with diagnosing/finding a parasitic drain in these cars. There are a few videos already out on Youtube but they don't work on these cars, as there is a specific way to attach a multimeter on Volvo to measure for parasitic drains.

This is baby food compared to what you guys do.
I installed poly bushings in the engine's upper mount and cross-brace resulting in much the same effect the poly sub-frame bushings imparted.
My cross brace flopped about meekly (without clunking though) and the rubber block in the upper mount (which had been replaced by the previous owner) was remarkably loose in the mount's frame.
The cross brace bushings insert from below and simply fill the air void in the stock bushings. They have the dimension of a short piece of 1.25" tubing with a shoulder.
The bushing for the top mount -a solid block- completely fills the frame.
The increase of "tight feeling" was less than that after the subframe bushing installation but along the same lines. The increase in vibration is minor but could be annoying to some.
My only regret was installing both elements at the same time. It would've been interesting to feel the effect of the stiffened cross brace before replacing the top mount's rubber block.
As before, it was fun and effective but perform any real maintenance you need first.

There's a good reason American cars with big engines have never been a thing here. Too expensive to refuel
I started on the PCV today. The little elbow was stuck so I cut it loose. Then I realised the new one wasn't right and wouldn't fit.. I'm really hoping Volvo has one in stock tomorrow..

C'mon man, just switch to Diesel
Example of Precision: Measure with a Micrometer, mark it with Chalk, and then cut it with an Axe.
