W; look for '00 XC in case the R needs AWD parts!
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

The driveshaft was already removed from the R, and I probably won't fix it. Unless I come across a good deal on a 2000 XC to fix it, that may be a good idea if I don't go with an M56 to replace the dead AW55!

Finally all the parts for the 850R have arrived and today replaced the PCV, thermostat, ABS module and spark plugs. Started the brakes late last week and have 3 wheels left to do and will finish them tomorrow.

Mostly watched my brother (thewifes_s70) swap out the struts in my '98 V70 over two days due to my late arrival and our dinner plans. (Happy graduation!)

The old ones weren't as bad as in the '00 V70: One almost rebounded on its own after being fully compressed. I neglected to order strut mount caps, so ended up using the OE ones that were on there.

Now I know where Im borrowing my strut compressor when needed... :-)

Question- What do you do when there oil all over the top of your engine and you can't find any leak?

Answer - tighten your loose oil filler cap.

Got a '99 T5M (C70) ETM today for the R. From what I understand, there is no difference between auto and manual ETMs. I plugged it in and it turned on like it should have. Didn't open and close with the gas pedal (I believe it's supposed to, but my current one doesn't either from what I can hear), but it turned on and off like it's supposed to. Will it work?
Both white label, and what's left of the part number (2 numbers, rest was rubbed off) it matches the current ETM.

There are rookie mistakes and expert mistakes. Unfortunately we more experienced DIYers make these "expert mistakes" every now and again.
Bonus tip... if you have '99+ with a misfire on multiple cylinders, make sure your coil wires are plugged into the right coils. But you'd have to be an IDIOT to make THAT mistake... :?

Your ETM candidate should pass the 8 second click whine test on power up, but it won’t move after that. Your 99 car is much too smart to bother with opening throttle while the engine isn’t running.

Good to know, because it clicks on just fine and makes that whine. Should be fine!

Passing on a thank you from the serpentine belt thread, for that trick with the socket adapter as belt tensioner...
