Turbo boost control solenoid question.
https://www.ebay.com/p/98-99-Volvo-V70- ... 7802899&Is it possible to use the later model solenoid on my 850t? I've asked before and I think I can, having looked over my previous post below. Anything else to add?

I doubt it. The control software for Motronic and ME7 and maps are pretty different I bet, Im guessing there is a reason for the new solenoid on 98-99
I might have an old one if you want to try it? PM me

Probably not interchangeable, you're right, otherwise unless upgraded why have a different unit. Mine is tired I'm sure. I have an AC-Delco unit and instructions on how to modify, so might try that.

Are the connections different? There are still 3 outlet/inlets on the original as is the newer variation. Other than the connector not sure how the operation would be different. If you are having concerns about cutting the harness for a different connector, but are doing it anyway for the AC Delco unit, why not take abscate up on the offer and try the newer version? Can't see what could be so different between say a 97 850 turbo and a 98 S/V70 engine-wise?
I've got a bunch of used newer ones and could stick one in an envelope to you to try also. I would recommend cutting a pig-tail with the connector from a later car for ease of connecting if it is different.
Neil.

I read somewhere you cannot use the newer (pierburg) unit on m4.3 and 4.4. I think it has to do with the maf/map difference. I can't remember why exactly, but the explanation sounded solid and reasonable to me back when I read that. Wishimg my brain wasn't that bad before even hitting 40...

I believe IPD sells 2 different HD boost controllers, one for 97 prior and one 98 up. So I would assume there is some substantial difference.

Mine is just very tired, well over 220k miles. Car suffers from considerable lag on acceleration. So, I figure it's the next step, and overdue. All other turbo bits and hoses are in good shape.

Your issue is somewhere. Your car will make 6psi of boost even if the solenoid is stuck open. Did you do stage 0? Make sure all intercooler hoses and pipings is intact and tight? Make sure no leak on intercooler? Pressure check the system? Make sure CBV has no hole?
