2001 S60 T5 possible purchase?

Post by sseir39 »

I have an eye on the above vehicle. 90K miles, good service records, tires 50% and some solder bloom by top hose of radiator. I know it will need a major tune at 105 K. Very clean, non smoker and my favorite color, white. Lady wants $12K for it. I feel this is high and need some suggestions.

Thanks for input,

dick

2001 was the first year...so if you can find a later year it would probably be better. If you have all of the service records you'll be able to know if this was one of the ones with heaps of trouble or if it was one that was trouble free. Buy accordingly. Being a T5 S60 is a good thing...at least it's not an AWD of that year- they were plagued with issues including transmission replacements.

What is solder bloom?
The big service is at 90K so be sure that was done. The 105K is a medium service but also the time for a TIMING BELT which really should be done NOW anyway.
Private party that's an 9- $9500 car, no more
That's all it's worth however if she has all records and was serviced PROPERLY, maybe add another $500 to 10 grand TOPS but NO MORE, it's just not worth it, that'a a 3rd seat XC wagon price which is worth much more than an S60.
I was buying T5 wagons TWO YEARS AGO for 9 grand

Thanks guys. I was aware of both price and throttle body problems but know Volvo is taking care of that for ten years or 200K.

The solder bloom really is the wrong term. The bloom is what you see when looking inside a radiator at the tubes. There is a growth like substance indicating things are going south. The stuff I saw on the radiator is chalky white where the hose connects to the radiator or where there may be a crack developing. Regardless, new hoses or radiator.
