I found the following instruction on how to reset the service needed message on an S80.
S80
1. Turn ignition switch to position I.
2. Press and hold "day counter reset button".
3. Turn ignition to position II.
4. Continue holding day counter for about 10 seconds.
5. After SRL flashes, release day counter button.
6. Should hear "beep-beep" to confirm command accepted.
Does anyone know what the day counter is, and where it is located ? Od is it on a software program that I don't have ?

The VADIS instructions differ slightly from what you posted. This is how Volvo say it should be done for 2002+ models:

1 Turn the ignition on to step I,
2 Check that the odometer is in T1
3 Press the odometer push button and continue to turn ignition to step II
within 2 seconds, while odometer button still is pressed.
4 Release odometer push button when yellow lamp starts flashing. Normally the yellow lamp starts flashing after 10 seconds
