I'm doing my timing belt today. Upon inspection of the marks on the cam, the left hand mark on the gear is pretty much lined up to the engine mark which is supposed to be in the middle of the 2 gear marks. Am I correct on that? What am I supposed to do to line the marks up?

Yes, two hatch marks on the crank gear should 'straddle' the mark on the engine with the camshaft marks up on top both lining up with the notches on the back half of the plastic camshaft cover. If you didn't loosen the bolt in the center of the camshaft pulleys, such as to replace the camshaft seals or VVT hub, this is all you need to worry about.
Rotate the engine two revolutions of the crankshaft by hand and check that all three marks are still lined up before reassembling everything else and starting the engine.
If you did loosen/remove either of the camshaft pulleys/VVT, things get more complicated: you need to acquire a cam locking tool and follow a specific procedure to the letter. If this is the case please advise as such and we'll attempt to guide you through it.

Also try using a small ruler to check the alignment for the exhaust cam pulley with the belt cover mark. The exhaust pulley is not easy (actually impossible) to watch fully facing it, so the marks may look misaligned when looking from the side. A small ruler or even a coffee straw can help check the alignment properly.

I didn't remove the crankshaft pulley and the 2 camshafts are lined up to the the cover.
Looking at it with the tensioner removed, the crankcase marking is "inside" the left gear mark (facing the engine) but not centered. Is this good or still rotate 2 full revolutions?

I found the block bump was close to the left dent on the crank pulley, not really centered in between the two dents. So no worries if that's the situation here. A little more to the right than in the picture, but still much closer to the left dent than to the right one.

The simplest way I ever found is, BEFORE you remove or slacken the old belt, rotate the crankshaft clockwise (normal rotation) until the cam sprockets are on their marks. Then mark the crank sprocket and engine case behind it with a sharpie. After the new belt and tensioner are in place just make sure you can rotate the crank a few times and both cams and the crank (Sharpie mark) all hit their marks at the same time.
