This is great advice for cleaning oily grimy metal surfaces - acetone is cheap and effective and you are mimicking what they put in the can. CRC would love for each of us to buy a separate can of cleaner named for each part under the hood.

And the volatile organics are all some grade of nasty, use common sense and don't huff it.

At my house the leftover does not sit around for long, the wife raids my stash. No complains, it makes the purchase even more cost effective.

If you need one good reason to keep a bottle of Acetone around, Super Glue has one chemical weakness: Acetone. Washing your fingers in Acetone will wash Super Glue off without washing your skin off or toxicating you.

It’s MAF cleaner that is hexanes and other alkanes

Throttle body cleaner is indeed mostly acetone as Rick wrote above. As long a seat the nail polish remover doesn’t have moisturizers it’s the same stuff. Ethyl acetate is not acetone, so don’t use that.

You can buy acetone as a paint stripper at the hardware store cheap, too.

Both use CO2 as propellant.
