Sputtering

Hello guys.. I'm very unsure on this one. And I'm hoping it Not the pcv but she has lots of miles and a lot of starting and stopping. It sputtered. Had the pipes cut cause I smelt something. Checked the cat and muffler. All's good. I thought my fuel pump, still good. I changed the fuel filter. Would not start. I put in a new fuel pump relay. Started right up. Drove some and started sputtering again she hasnthad a tuneup. Process of elimination what else.. What else.. Thanks

I recall having to brake hard in a parking lot, and shortly there after I'm having sputtering. Could that possibly have caused some problem? Just trying to figure this thing out, I can't afford to just run to the stealership.

What brand is replacement fuel pump relay?
'97 850 2.5 20v / fully equipped / Motronic 4.4 from the factory / upgraded with S,V,C,XC70 instrument cluster / polar white wagon

How old are the plugs, wires, dizzy?
When was the last time you drained and refilled your ATF (asking because old tranny fluid might cause erratic torque converter function thereby stalling the engine).
Summer: 1996 855 R
Winter: 1994 855 T5M

Why thanks for that a long time and the pump relay is a Delaney

You must use Volvo relay for this purpose...or at least Bosch.
Grab a used one from junkyard...don't buy that cr*p like Fae or Delaney...etc.

Yeah I hear you Misha yet sometimes money goes so far on things. And that's what I do the JY for parts but where I live it's miles away and I can't get there right now. I'm starting w/ the fuel pump now I have all new VOLVO plugs wires rotor and dis. Cap ready to go. My pump I got now came from the JY , its held up for a long while, I've been low on cash so doing my best to take care of my wagon 😌

You can borrow The fuel pressure gauge for free from an auto part sale place to diagnose the fuel delivery and save time over throwing parts at it. JY parts are always a bit risky as diagnostics, of course
