ABS, TRAC, BRAKE light all on at the same time...

Post by subbaraa »

After reading numerous threads on this forum, I came to an understanding that my ABS module could be at fault. I am pasting the symptoms here, in the hopes that someone can confirm...?

I have a 99 Volvo S70 AWD Turbo 2.4

Recently, amongst many other problems, the following lights light up in any combination:
Brake light on dash, traction control light, ABS light, and the speedometer falling to 0 when the car is in motion.

This is an intermittant issue, and comes up every now and then.

Does this sound like the ABS module is ready to go up? Any ideas on where I can find a good deal for a module?

I recently replaced the ignition switch as well, as that was failing too.
Any thoughts are much appreciated as always :)

Try the ignition switch first...when that goes all kinds of things go hay wire. After the switch (no pun intended) and if you still have the ABS/TRACS lights go on and off with accompanying odometer issues- this is a classic sign of a failing ABS module and you need to get yours repaired.

Ok, I just did the ignition switch last weekend, and that took care of the headlights not coming on, direction switches not workign etc... and I think it was you that recommended me to change the ignition swithc... thanks for that :)
(could not find the original thread to post that it was successful)

So, I guess my ABS module is about ready to go Kamakazie on me...

are these usually $300? or know where I can find a cheaper one?

Get yours rebuilt. It's the cheapest way to go and not difficult to take it out and put it back in. There are others but this is the guy that did it for me: http://home.earthlink.net/~vicrocha/ Cost is under $150 including postage.

The link JRL gave does the exact same thing...and cheaper....and from what I understand, may even be faster.

Ok Folks
I ordered a new part instead of getting it rebuilt
Got it from IPD (ABS module)

I got this one: http://www.ipdusa.com/Volvo-SV70-1998-2 ... -361-2216/
The number of the module that I pulled out = 9472650
The number that I got (new module) = 9472100

So they are compatible according to that
now, I also went ot the programanic.com website, where it also shows that they are compatible
http://www.programainc.com/doc/VolvoSaab.html

097 8 622 097 8 622 093, 9 472 100, 9 472 650, 9 496 450 ABS Control Module VOLVO with TRACS/STC R&R 1999 2000 S70/V70 with TRACS/STC AWD S70,V70

So, I installed it, put everything back together, turn it on, and the ABS light is constantly on. The tracs light etc have disappeared, just the ABS light blaring into my face. There are no OBD2 codes either (already scanned it), took the battery out adn put it back in and still nothing, even hit that reset button on the dash, did nothing.

What do I do now?
Help!

Ok, PROBLEM SOLVED

Apparently, the volvos do a self test at ~ 20mph. So after I took the car for a test drive (just to see how things were, after the disappointment), and it cleared itself out! IT HEALS ITSELF!

heh, needless to say, I am very excited.

Thanks for all the help. I was going to take pics for the write up, and forgot. But here is a really good post that I found online, clearly we should make it stick on the repair database
