Lately when I preview or submit items there have consistently been lag times over a minute...not a complaint but an observation. Could be my service ( cable ). I have defragged and despywared. Curious if anyone else is experiencing this.

Yes...it comes and goes. Other sites are lightening fast, so I know it's not my computer.

To add extra "evil" to this problem, it's regional, which for me as a developer/owner is hell. Because I don't see it often. Like yesterday, I didn't notice a thing, except for the traffic numbers at the end of the day -- they were 1/2 usual!
Ack, I gotta get off this host. I have another, but I'm having latency issues with them too which I'm trying to resolve before I move over. No use in moving if similar issues are going to happen.

Matt,
Nobody else seems to be reporting this ( MIJ says it's intermittant where mine is consistent ) and it could just be my cable service. It doesn't bother me as it is only for previews and submits. Everything else is fine.
There's another site that I constantly have problems logging onto and the cable here went through repairs recently where they were dropping service repeatedly for 2 weeks. This problem only started since then.
Has anyone else told you of problems? The delay is always between 50 and 70 seconds regardless of the complexity of the post . This board seems a lot busier than when I joined in July so maybe there's a traffic / bandwidth issue although the time of day or night doesn't change the lag.
This place is definitely popular...

Like MIJ I find it is intermittent, other sites are running normally so my computer has been given a stay of execution.
It was only on preview and submit but tonight I have had it whilst deleting duplicate posts. One went well over a minute.
Bill.

Well, then there are the relative speed reports, like MIJ:
Other sites are lightening fast, so I know it's not my computer.
That makes it clear to me my host is laggy. This site has outgrown the hosting plan... any way you slice it it needs to move.

How about fixing the problem that when it IS slow and one becomes frustrated and hits "ENTER" more than once you don't get completely thrown off the board and have to log in again.matthew1 wrote:Well, then there are the relative speed reports, like MIJ:

This is THE ONLY SITE THAT DOES IT AND DOES IT EVERY SINGLE DAMN TIME.It's quite annoying
Matt,
It's a database problem. I've got a phpBB2 board as well, and this is almost certainly something to do with the database server. Since you're on dreamhost, it's likely the database server you are hosted on is overloaded or needs to have some optimization done.
Likely the SQL database is trying to grow each time someone puts an edit/new post in, and the transaction is taking a long time because it is waiting for the DB file to expand. The DB administrator likely needs to pre-expand the database.
