My son has a 2001 S-40. Rear shocks were changed by a local mechanic a few months ago. I drove the car last nite and there is a rattling in the right rear. Got out, bounced on the rear bumper and, YES, I can reproduce this sound by pushing the car up and down.
What do I look for? I am perfectly capable of doing auto work myself.
Rear shocks?

Hmmm, if it were an 850 or 70 series car I would say a loose or fallen down rear bump stop, but with an S40, I don't know. http://volvospeed.com/Repair/SpringBumpStop.php
