Purchasing tires for AWD

I used to own a 2000 xc70. (I don't even like to think about it, but anyways) When replacing the tires, I had to buy 4 instead of two because the AWD was so sensitive.

I need to replace a tire on my 2011 xc60 AWD. Can I just get two or do I still need to follow the old guidelines about replacing all 4 because of the AWD system?

Any info would help.
