Left-rear door marker light won't extinguish

Post by Nitro »

Car is a 1999 V70XC. The red lamp that warns passing vehicles that the left-rear door is open won't go out as it's supposed to when the door shuts. I finally simply pulled the bulb but since I just found this forum thought I'd ask if anyone knows where the switch (mechanical? magnetic?) might be.

I've looked in what I consider to be all the obvious door-sill-area places for a plunger-type switch like I have on my truck, but can't find a thing (which is why I'm wondering if it's magnetic). Anybody know anything about this? Thanks!

i believe it's inside the door/pillar, and is attached to a rod about mid-door.

potroast,

Thanks for that. Is it magnetic, and is it something I can fix myself without benefit of tequila and oxyacetylene?

i do not believe it is magnetic in the sense that you have a magnet on the door, and a sensor on the pillar, no. If I remember correctly, there is a "rod" located approximately mid-door that would act as a switch.

If you go to your local volvo dealer, the parts department is usually very willing to provide insight and even a printout from their tech manuals on exactly what is neccessary to fix/replace the part -- you can also get any needed parts there.
