Radiator leak - can I patch ?? 98 S70 volvo

Post by peterz »

Radiator leak is near top next to hose. Appears to be results of leaking seal as it is coming from a place where two parts of radiator are joined and clamped. Bubbling out and loosing about a liter per day with normal driving.

Is there a repair compound that I can use to seal leak externally?

Or is there an additive for the coolant that will plug the hole without damaging the water pump etc.?

Thanks,

Pete

Radiators come in two types, glued and crimped. if the glued type starts to go, replace it quick before it completely lets go and you loose all coolant instantly.
From your description of clamped, you must have the crimped type. My sons 240 was also leaking near the top hose. I think people use too much muscle when removing the top hose. I used a large pair of pliers to tighten the crimp. That was over a year ago and still no leaks.
