2001 V70XC - Oil in Spark Plug Well

This is where the oil is - those light tan stains snaking across the head between the halves. The round holes are oil drains where it drops down from the cam galleys back to the pan. The o-rings should keep the spark plug wells sealed - but there's no pressure at the drains.

Here's the top half. You see the thin oil galleys there. The hole you see between #2 and #3 is where the PCV system vents. Could your PCV be badly clogged?

The oil level on dipstick has been study, an x below the max marker.
Last night checked the spark plug well, removed ignition coil #3, 4 & 5, and found all to be empty and dry?
WHAT? So looked again, and yes empty.
Our three Volvos appear healthy again.

Whats the oil flow path here. Is it coming up from the left hand side of picture, through the small thin passage, to the front cam seal on the far right, then bathing the lifters and cams by flow to the rear of the engine back on the left?

I think it comes up through the block at the "front" end, feeds the first cam journals and the VVT hubs through internal passages, then travels down the zig zag galley feeding each cam journal as it heads "south." The bearing / journal oil floods the lifter troughs before draining back down.

Now that could be backwards, I'm not sure.

At the back of the head on the upper half you clearly see two "dead-end" holes at the end of the passages, but I think these are the passages to the last cam journal. There isn't a port coming up through the head at those two circles.

There is a single round hole at the center rear of the head and the upper cover - if this is oil, where is it going once it's in the cover? (Scratch that! - it's the big bolt from the upper engine mount block)

There are some ports drilled in the VVT hub and seal areas at both front and back - the one at the rear seal might be a drain.

One port to the VVT hub, another a drain (or supply?) at the seal?

Rear of engine - drain from last bearing and seal?
