Hi All,
I have been rebuilding my parents old 99 S70 for my son to drive while he is in college. I need to replace the hose that runs over the delta boxes to the pass side rear brake pipe. It would be Volvo part # 3516568. It does not connect to a rear caliper. I have sprayed wd40 on the connections. Any tricks that folks know about? It has been driven in salt spray in Boston, so it looks like the ends are about to crumble. Otherwise I would not touch it. Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Ken

I hate the design of those pipes and connections as they are difficult to access. All I can suggest is to soak the connections with plenty of good penetrant for a few days prior to attempting to dis-assemble.
If You have access use a good quality vice grip to hold the end of the rubber hose section where the hex should be, and then use a good quality brake nut wrench to undo the metal hose end.
When they are badly rusted, I have used fin emery paper to clean the metal hose end behind the nut to remove any corrosion to give yourself a chance to not break the metal pipe.
I eventually bought a Snap-on brake hose wrench (11mm) as I found cheaper ones tended to round the nut easily as they flexed when you turned them.
I have heard some folk cut the rubber hose just behind the end of the connector and then using a socket and wrench to help turn the pipe end while holding the metal end from turning. Problem is you still have to get at least one metal pipe end to turn to tightened up both ends.
Neil.

Shift from WD40 which is a water displacement agent, to pb blaster , Kroil,or liquid wrench...penetrating oils.

Thank you for the advice! I will take a steel tooth brush to clean and switch to PB. An unknown mechanic cross threaded the steel pipe that goes to the pass. rear caliper, so a new fitting will be needed. I will try to document the process. I bought a set of Gear Wrench flex head flare nut tools. I am hoping that they will make it easier to get leverage on the nuts. At 20 years, the old hoses don't owe anyone more time. The fronts I took off were bubbling at the outer layer of rubber.
Cheers,
Ken
