2006 XC70 Console Armrest R&R

Post by bill b »

Hi, Everybody,
I am changing mine because it appears the PO let his dog chew on his.
I see the rear panel and must assume this pops off to gain access. Am I on the right track. Thank you.
Bill

Hi

The cover for the console arm rest is removed & replaced by opening the center console compartment that is in back of the cup holder. Once that is open you will find (2) torx screws at the top and (2) torx screws at the bottom of the compartment door cover. If I recall they should be T25(s). After you remove those (4) screws, place your self in the center of the back seat and then use both of your hands and grab the lower left and right edges of the compartment door cover with it fully open, (grab the right and left lower edge in the center of the compartment door cover) and slightly pry both of those edges outward towards the sides of the driver / passenger seat(s) and the compartment door cover will pop off.

Fataqui,
(I know this is an old thread but I'm also replacing the armrest on an xc70 2006).
Do you mean (above) that you need to remove the side panels from the center console to access the screws...or the panel facing the back seats?
Thanks for any help!
Alan.

a73s,
It's been awhile since I did this, but you need to remove both. The whole console needs to come out as you can only remove the armrest torx screws from underneath. As I recall, I did this at a junk yard and ended up breaking the side panels (plastic) because I couldn't easily access the side panel screws. The screws to the rear panel were easy to access. There may also be screws under the cup holder. If you are only interested in replacing the armrest, start with the getting a replacement at the junkyard. By the time you get it out, you'll know where the screws are so you won't destroy your current console during removal.
Good luck.
