I don't know if the VVT hubs have any internal non-metal parts. I WOULD NOT use oven cleaner to clean the VVT. I would just clean them in a tub of gas, let them soak, move them around, take them out move the action, repeat until satisfied. Then run the gas in your lawn mower.

Without knowing what is in there and how it will react to oven cleaner just not worth the risk.

I was kidding.
Just going to put it in a bucket of degreaser... simple green.
I've Only used the oven cleaner on things I can see and scrub. 5 mins and rinse. Repeat as needed.
The head was picked up this morning for milling...gaskets and everything have been ordered. Need to recover before getting back to it.

Thanks for looking out..

Almost forgot I plan to knock down some of the high spots on the Pistons and sand smooth? My thinnking is once they heat up they'll fall off?

Sound ok ? Anyone ? Bueller Bueller?

Just sand down the high spots and clean up. Don't worry about the dent below grade, just knock down everything above grade. They will be fine.

I would stick to gas, diesel fuel, kerosene or not clean them at all. My fear is rust - I don't know what is inside those VVTs.

Carb cleaner is just toluene s and xylene s , part of gasoline. You might be able to squirt solvent through the VVT with the Can under pressure nicely, though.

Gm Abscate.

What do you mean squirt it in ?
Thu the face of it after removing the Cap/Cover?
Its off the car so I can definitely do that or use anything safe, and hang it to drain and dry...

Thanks guys!

You want the timing mark on the crank pulley set to the mark. That will set the pistons below the head.
