Windshield Washer Resorvoir

Post by viper69 »

Well I'm pretty sure I need a new windshield washer tank. I top it off, it drains quite a bit immediately, and then stops at some point, so SOME fluid remains, but not full obviously.

A Volvo parts guy told me this tank is now listed in Volvo's Classic Parts list (which sucks) that means they only make enough to fill orders, they don't keep stock. So it's on back order "forever", in short, till they get enough orders.

Is there another part that is better or that will work?

Thanks

Junkyard is your friend on this. Not aware of these ever splitting unless damaged by impact.

Removing it will maybe identify it is not the tank at all but possibly the pump leaking. Is your car a wagon or a sedan? There are 2 pumps on the wagons and the rear one fits from the top but it sits higher in the tank and if the seal has been damaged it will drain to that level.

So unless you can confirm the reservoir is damaged it is unlikely it is.

It’s a well made unit and if you pull it out you can probably fix any leak with JB weld.

Lisle does show 9190695 available by the way ( sorry , that’s 1998-, on edit)

It is very common for the seam to leak, where the fill tube meets the reservoir. I've never fixed it (2 of mine are like this) but any plastic-friendly epoxy should do the trick.

It's a sedan. I haven't had an impact. I've remember seeing where the my tank is due to other work years ago, it's in the most hard to get place. The labor is more than the part sadly.

I hadn't considered the pump as I can shoot fluid onto my windshield with no issue. But pour liquid in, and at a certain height, the column of fluid leaks fast.

I was wondering about this. I wish I had a lift to put my car up on, would make things easier.

So your tanks are empty? Or they carry just enough fluid for a bit like mine?

On mine they don't leak until they are almost full. So I just fill until it starts to leak out, then stop.
