P10108 Code and then misfiring

Post by Pilgar »

My 2006 XC90 2.5T threw a P10108 Code yesterday and started to run really rough. I cleared the code and it then threw a bunch of cylinder misfiring codes Cylinders 2 through 5 and ran even rougher. Cylinder one was the only one not sending a misfire code.

The P10108 code is "Manifold Air Pressure (MAP) Barometric Pressure Sensor Circuit High Voltage Input"

I replaced the MAP with a known good one and nothing changed. I checked the coils and plugs and all looked and functioned fine. The misfires are on 2 through 5. Their plugs looked dry and the cylinders looked wet. I have had a MAF code on the car for a few months. Could that now be causing all the misfires? I have a known good MAF that I will try tomorrow.

Has anyone experienced this in the past or have any ideas of what to do next??

No P-10108 for the XC90 that I can easily see. The closest thing in VIDA I find is the atmospheric pressure sensor (ECM-112/113), for MY2006 it's in the ECM I believe. The MAP sensor DTC would be ECM-125/126 which correlate to an OBD P-0238 to P-0240 as far as I can tell.

For sure won't hurt to swap out the MAF, especially since you've had a CEL on for it. If you can get the car read with a Volvo centric tool, please post the results.

Thanks

Well I installed and known good MAF and it is still missing. I pulled all the plugs again and the gap was bent over, I put in a fiber camera and the top of Piston #2 was cracked. Just for giggles I installed new plugs in all 5 cylinders and started it up. It seemed to run fine, I ran the car for about 40 minutes and it smoothed out and idled just fine. It didn't throw any more codes. I turned it off and let it sit for three hours and when I started it up again all the misfiring was back. I just bought this car 6 months ago, it had 147,000 miles and the timing belt had been done at 120,000. It never was low on oil and I changed the oil with Mobil One every 3500 miles. The car is in great shape except for the motor. So I am thinking of rebuilding or replacing the motor with a used one. But in my area the least expensive installer wants $2500 to $3500 for the swap not including the engine. It is a 2006 2.5T FWD
Any thoughts??

Bent electrode on the spark plug? Sounds like maybe turbo damage with metal bits that got sucked into the engine

Just for peace of mind, have you tried to pull the connectors on injectors or on ignition coils one by one ? www.youtube.com/watch?v=fnYUQh23p7Q

Sorry to hear anyway, any chances your bring the car back to the seller for hidden faults? Or go in court? Try pulling the turbo and see how much play it has.

Turns out is was the BB from the check valve in the Banjo bolt underneath the intake manifold that got sucked into the cylinder. The top of the piston looked like it was hammered on with a teeny ballpeen hammer. It was a private sale I am not sure I have any recourse. I did think it made noises my other XC90 didn't when I first got it, but if seemed to run just fine.

I found an engine with 90,000 miles and swapped it in, I also found the culprit responsible for killing my engine. The BB and the crosspin came out of the banjo bolt and beat a piston to death.
