DTC code issues

Post by stephensorce »

I have an xc90 that has many codes on it. the car will crank but will not start. i believe this is because of the "brake failure stop safely" code. the brakes have been working fine until today. I ended up taking apart my interior trying to trace any spliced or frayed wires but did not find any. Has anyone had issues with these codes before?

any help or advice is much appreciated.

let me know if there is any other information that can help with the context of this issue

Per the Volvo documentation-

Diagnostic trouble code BCM-C008217 is generated if the brake control module (BCM) registers that battery voltage exceeds 18 V.

Diagnostic trouble code BCM-U012600 is generated if the brake control module (BCM) registers that there is no signal from the steering angle sensor module (SAS). The steering angle sensor module (SAS) sends a signal to the brake control module (BCM) via CAN to indicate whether the steering angle sensor is functioning correctly or not.

Diagnostic trouble code BCM-U010000 is generated if the brake control module registers that there is no speed or torque signal from the engine control module (ECM) from more than 500 ms.

The steering angle sensor module (SAS) communicates with the brake control module (BCM) with data sent in "small bundles". Each bundle has an ID number.Diagnostic trouble code BCM-U042829 is generated if the brake control module (BCM) registers an unexpected ID number.

The brake control module (BCM) receives wheel speed information by the wheel sensors, which are housed in the wheel mounting, reading off a toothed wheel on the wheel axle. If the control module registers that the signal from a wheel sensor is distorted or cut off too many times, diagnostic code BCM-C003101, BCM-C003401, BCM-C003701 or BCM-C003A01 is generated depending on which wheel sensor was involved.

Think some history of this vehicle might well be in order for context, what was working (or not) prior to the no-start and when exactly did the no-start occur? Car been in an accident, any modules swapped out, footwell water leak, any odd electrical events occur? Last but not least, is this the original battery in the car?

edit 100618-add BCM troubleshooting chart https://xemodex.com/us/knowledgebase/bcm-flow-chart/ in the event it's helpful
