Poor part; great service! Windows switch brands

Post by rmmagow »

There's a driver's side windows switch on Amazon for under $30.00 delivered. It is not a very good part although your mileage may vary. It didn't fit very well, took a bit too much effort to put in. On mine, the door lock/unlock function doesn't work. Return is somewhat of a problem in that they do give you a pre-printed return label but you pay postage to China. I assume this would be a PITA with customs forms etc. I'm keeping the thing and may take it apart to figure out the door lock problem. Switch Doctor on ebay and amazon costs a bit more, still Chinese junk but the switch works fine and looks good. This is just a warning for the sub-$30.00 Aborn branded switch.

Reason: Added "windows switch brands" to title. Also, moved to Parts subforum.

I used the Switch Doctor part as it is contactless unlike the original. Works fine.

My first SD switch broke, the button on the driver window came off. I saw the sub 30 on Amazon and just ordered it as a spare (or for my wife's S70) and processed a return for the SD switch, easy, quick and already installed. I wanna say about $60.00 and well worth it. Great service from the SD folks. I'm going to see what is involved with returning the other one as it is also a good looking switch, just didn't work.

Aborn customer service turned out to be fine. They are refunding my money without the return of the old switch. I may take it apart just to see. I'm betting that it might be a hit-or-miss situation for quality and fit. For under $30 delivered it might be worth it. I did get the door lock function to work with a little fiddling. it's in my wife's S70 for now, we'll see.

WOW, I'd almost like to delete this whole post. These folks were great and already issued a refund for the thing. Hell, parts is parts but good service is hard to find.

We can do that if you'd like! I think it serves as a good review for a company standing behind their product though.

OK, maybe change title to Poor Part, Great Service. I twiddled around with the part and actually have it working in my wife's S70. Don't know if it'll keep working but for less then 30 bucks, sort of hard to beat.

If you keep the car for any length, buy the Volvo part, especially in the six months before amd after June ....
