Looking to do full exhaust job - everything but the manifold

Trying figure out if I can do this myself or not. Unlike my Jeeps in the past, these cars are a bit of a pain to work under.

Manifold was replaced last year. Looking to do the full system so cat, muffler and tailpipe. Non turbo 1998 base wagon.

What is the best place to buy a full kit minus manifold? I want as stock of a kit as possible, but I don’t want stainless or anything. This car has high miles and I’m just not willing to put anything fancy into the exhaust.

I have a local mechanic who will do labor if I supply parts. Sometimes that’s easier - how many hours would this job take for a shop with a lift?

He should be avle to do it in less tahn 2 hours. Probably less.

Looks like you are going to need the catalytic converter plus the muffler with pipes. Carparts.com has two exhaust manufacturer brands that I think are decent quality.

Here is the breakdown:

Walker: Cat $500, Muffler $210

Bosal: Cat $290, Muffler $210

If you don't have smog / picky emissions test where the car is registered, you can save a bundle and skip the cat. Install catless mid-pipe, an O2 spacer on downstream senor, and forget about it. Any exhaust shop should be able to do this in under 2 hours.

I fixed my exhaust recently.

I got rid of the cat cuz my 02 sensor was stucj [doubt it was necessary] but spent most of the time with the manifold gasket.

Mine had the donut style. I ordered the spring bolts and corresponding donut gasket from FCP. There are a couple different styles in the 850 to v70.

The muffler is a generic brand with custom pipes because the oem muffler's input and output faced the sides rather than front to back. A few new exhaust hangers were needed cuz mine has rusted out.

A exhaust shop outside of D.C. did that all for $300 including parts.

We actually have TWO planets. True story, but hidden from us by our government. Anyway, the other planet is all 1980s American cars. So nobody wants to go to it and we don't either, so yes please use cats.

Only Gremlins, Pacers, pintos are allowed in World2.

There is no apple, and Microsoft runs Walmart which is only open for an hour a day due to rebooting. It’s a bad dash to buy everything when they open.

All restaurants are Tavo Bell.

The only sports cars allowed are Vegas

Heated third seats are not found.

Demolition Man fan??? Abscate, your world sounds like Hell! Matthew's could be doable, after all Americans made a few interesting cars in the 1980's like the Buick Reatta, 5.0 convertibles are just a couple.

I'd rather find the planet where Volvo is the only car company. It would have been interesting to see what the last 19 years could have brought had Volvo never been sold. June
