S80 T6 Engine destruction X2 Volvos are tough!

My son showed me these videos years ago which sure upset me. I found it interesting how tough a Volvo engine actually is. I doubt we would have been able to see how long a Volvo engine can run without oil X2. A drained crankcase and one quart of sodium silicate added to ruin all internal engine parts. Cash For Clunkers program nearly killed one million cars paid for by American taxpayers like me... for those non US viewers out there. June

3 Billion dollars was spent....it was in response to the 2008 economic collapse

"Jacksonville State University economist and Ludwig von Mises Institute scholar Christopher Westley said that the program "sticks it" to the poor and lower-middle classes by raising the price of the remaining cars in the secondary market, as well as by raising the general price level resulting from the monetary inflation required to finance it. Westley called CARS the "I Hate the Poor Act of 2009"

I agree totally! I have always felt the useable cars bought should have been given back to the people who desperately need a car for work. To destroy the car within 30 days didn't even allow the good parts to be removed much beyond wheels... June

Many years ago, United Parcel Service sold a vehicle which was involved in an accident that the court put the finger of blame on UPS. Every since then, each vehicle/trailer destroyed must be documented via salvage yard, with photos.

Cash For Clunkers was a program primed for abuse....money talks, when the Cat is not watching the mice.

Agreed. In 2009 after watching an S80 destroy itself on Youtube -- could have been one of those two videos posted above -- I called into Denver AM station 850 KOA who were discussing this absurd program. I spoke on air about how it was destroying working cars, in many cases the absolute wrong working cars (like these S80s).

They didn't get it. Whatever, I made my point (and plugged MVS -- true story).

In Europe these kinds of incentives are not even disguised as anything but a way to get cars of the road so people have to buy new ones and support the industry.

Aw I was honored to have solved the topic ;-)! You can simply click the button again and it will "unsolve" it, but I'll be sad .
