95 850 Oxygen sensor question

Post by Arfsnarfy »

I have to replace the rear o2 sensor on my 95 850 turbo wagon. I noticed when I ordered the sensor that Volvo suggests that a new harness be installed, "so that reference air would not be cantaminated".

I got the harness but don't understand what they want you to do with it, just put it in series with sensor or what.

I'm missing the whole priciple here because it appears to just be a 6-7" extension of the harness. Am I missing something.

Help!

In case anyone is curious, I did the 02 sensor this weekend. The additional harness was installed and all went well. It just hooked in series with original harness. I'm told that the reference air for the sensor enters through the harness and that is why the additional wiring was needed.
I'm still a bit miffed by it, but I cleared the code and gave her a good run this weekend and the code hasn't reappeared.

It's so nice not to see that YELLOW light on the dash.

Thanks much for the update on how it went. Glad it's working for you.

I did the front O2 sensor a couple years ago, and I didn't miss that light either!
