2006 V70 key failure + other issues

This morning I put the key in and it would only turn to position 1. The steering lock was off, but that was it. I took the surround off the column and dismantled what i could. With the key in position 1 and the ignition switch off the end of the barrel I turned it with a screwdriver and the car started fine. However it has loads and loads of electrical issues. The front windows wont work, the mirrors wont work, the abs light is on the airbag light is on, the display says the anti skid is off. I've checked all the fuses, everything is fine. The car was running fine up and till this morning. Any ideas whats going on?

The ignition cylinder is a common problem. Dremel the bottom cover off of ignition cylinder to fix it. Search forum for instructions.

I don’t know what to say on other problems. Possibly the ignition switch is not in exactly the right position with screwdriver. I’d fix the above problem first and revisit. If no one has a better suggestion after hacking cylinder, I’d reset computer and then look at affected fuses with voltmeter to see if voltage is getting to them and report back.

Thanks for the reply. I'd come to pretty much the same conclusion with the electrical issues, I think the window/mirror issue is probably something different. I'll get the barrel fixed and do a reset and see where I stand.

Two (2) separate issues...

1. Ignition switch (electrical) is $55 at dealer. Don't buy aftermarket ign switch.

2. Search P80 for "Ignition tumbler FREE fix", which involves removing the bottom plate. True for P80, P2 cars and other with the VALEO tumbler design.

From reading about, it seems that the electrical failures are associated with starting the car with a screwdriver. A battery off reset will cure all of them except the srs failure notice. Clearing the fault codes should sort that out. Just need to pop out the plate off the bottom of the barrel and let the gubbins drop out. I'll report back with what happens.......

I took the metal plate off the bottom of the steering lock mechanism, it pinged off and a cone shaped spring and a small cast metal tab fell out. The key now moves freely, but the steering lock is no longer functional. I replaced the metal plate with the cone spring (This works the steering lock) and everything works as normal. I did all this with the key out of the lock. When I put the lower part of the steering column bezel on I put a wad of tissue paper in the bottom of so it presses hard on the metal plate to stop it coming loose. Most of the electrical issues went away except the srs and abs issues. A reset sorted them out and the car works fine now. Thanks for the pointers and saving me a shedload of money! Total cost of this repair was £0
Oh one thing about the electrical issues. On the ignition switch there is also a pressure switch that indicates to the ECU that the switch is attached to the ignition barrel. When you start the car with a screwdriver, because that switch is not pressed it upsets the ecu and causes the electrical issues I experienced.
