Hello late Model Forum,
Does anyone know if the “B” pillar shoulder harness anchor is adjustable up and down on the late model S60s, particularly the Inscription? My 5-foot wife complains that the belt cuts into the side of her neck and if Volvo hasn’t incorporated an adjustable anchor by now (like the Asian cars costing half as much) then the next car will NOT be a Volvo.
In case you are about to say, yes, she’s tried raising the seat all the way up and also tried a couple different clip-on gizmos and they all pull the lap belt UP more than the shoulder belt DOWN.
Also, are all Inscriptions assembled in China? Not that they can’t build cars well - just curious.
Thanks.

Volvo is now owned by Geely (Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd) one of the largest Chinese automotive manufacturers.
What year? 2011-2018 S60 do have an seat belt Height Adjuster.

Rick,
Yeah, I'm aware of the Geely ownership and that most models are still built in Sweden or Belgium (or now US also). But it seems I read somewhere that all of the Inscriptions (longer wheel base and back seat leg room) are being built in China. The standard length S60 is not of interest to my wife and I due the the lack of back seat leg room. She really likes her 2005 S80 but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and when we start adding up what it would cost to bring it back up to "near-new condition" it just doesn't make much sense. We need to go check out a low mileage 2015-2016 S80. There's a lot of bang for the buck there - buyer's market. And at 37 MPG Hwy for a straight gas car, i can get all over that! But then there's the shoulder belt issue again. I don't understand why, in 2015-2016, Volvo couldn't have included adjustable anchor points in the S80, as it was supposed to be their flag ship.
Sooooo, if the 2015-2016 S80 shoulder harness won't work, then the S60 long wheel base would have to be our only other Volvo choice. And if the S60 LWB turns out to be deficient in design/materials/build quality, then I guess we're off to Toyotaville. Personally, I'm not afraid of a Chinese-built car as long as the design and component quality is on a par with its Euro brothers and sisters. I think most any assembly plant can turn out a good car if given a good design and good components. A good example is right here in the U.S. - when building GM/Ford/Chrysler cars, our domestic plants turned out lousy cars. But when when those same workers were tasked with building Camrys, they starting turning out quality cars.

Volvo does use a physically adjustable front seat belt B pillar anchor on many models. They use a long spool and the belt height is self-adjusting. This system is noted by the slot belt feeds from being a droopy foot L.

Chengdu, China was setup to manufacture the S60L and XC60 for the US and China market.
I use to do Quality Engineering. What we found is almost all quality issues can be traced back to a bad decision by a member of management. Frequently the bad decision is, trying to work humans like a machine or a cow.
