The icarsoft scanner is good; I have one and it reads everything and works well. If you are able, you would be much better served acquiring a VIDA Dice unit instead. Money well spent. Only knock on the icarsoft for me is in the definitions of codes- pretty general. Once you know a code, though, you can *usually* find info on forums about the issue. Honestly though, the VIDA Dice is a whole other level as it delivers solutions as well as loads of information and repair walk-throughs.

VIDA Dice unit , from looking around it seems this is a software solution and you need an old laptop running widows 7 32 bit? dont have anything that old laying around. Also see several people saying they have issues getting it to connect to their car etc... Seem like a ton of hassle. I want something I can plug in and use.

It is possible to install VIDA on a Windows 10 laptop now (I have it running on a Surface Pro). Looks like the DICE unit has come down in price (on eBay) since I bought mine, and I would agree that it is the superior solution. But you are right that it's not just "plug-and-play", especially with initial setup. Once it is working, though, it opens up a world of possibilities for shade tree repairs. (i.e. trans fluid changes require a certain operating temperature - which the DICE can read, and a generic OBD scanner can't) -Joe

(Edit: VIDA/Dice worked great on my 04 XC90, incidentally)

OK, I tried out the AUTOPHIX ES610 code reader. It was able to not only turn off the air bag light but it also can reset service light etc. It found 29 volvo codes on my truck and cleared them all. pretty impressed for the price. super simple to use. it of course can also ready all the obd!! codes and give all info on the car itself.
