Folding Spare Tire?

Post by BrianV70 »

Has anyone been able to put together a folding spare for their Volvo? Our new-to-us V70 FWD has no spare tire. Colorado has some pretty empty stretches of road...

I could try to find a Vredestein dealer (Vredestein Space Saver) and see if they can get one, probably find a 16" steel spare rim from the salvage yard (or take it from my V70 that doesn't leave town?). Stock wheels are 17"; I have a 16" snow setup on it now so I know 16s fit.

Thanks!

Go to LKQ in Denver or Aurora and get what you need.

The special spare has a special rim but any regular Volvo 16" rim should fit the compartment. There just won't be as much room left for other stuff.

Thanks -

I realized I had a typo. Our new car is a V60 FWD, not a V70.

I'll try to fiddle around this weekend and gauge of the donut from our '00 V70 might squeeze in there.

Ah. Well I think the circumference should be much larger for the V60 to keep it happy.

A lot of those newer cars aren't even sold with spares but rather with the spray can and mini compressor kit.

^^ exactly. It came with a 12V inflator and a can of sealant. Scary!
