Went back into the '99 XC to check out the non-cranking engine, removing the fan, shroud, turbo hoses, battery, etc., in record time. In an effort to figure out why the replacement starter isn't engaging. Continued from here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=78410&start=1210#p488589

My 3-year-old came outside to play in the third row seat, so I spent time entertaining him instead of troubleshooting. Naturally, I ran out of daylight.

My dad was driving it at the time. He walked out with only minor bumps and bruises. The front end of the mercedes was gone. I couldn't even see where the engine had gone.

I've examined the car and the side impact safety on these things is absolutely out of this world. For that reason I'm definitely sticking to Volvo's for a long while. The tow truck driver himself said that had it not been a volvo, my father would've had to be taken away in a stretcher.

Rip t5 :( she was a fantastic car. Ending mileage was 342430km (or 212776 miles)
Wow, that looks awful. I'm glad to hear he was okay! Just one more reason to love a Volvo!

Ocelot,

Here are some pictures of the install.
Make sure to put the cable under the seat rails before you connect both ends... I forgot and had to do it twice.

Joost! I ordered the subwoofer from the store you adviced. Can't wait to install this thing and check out the sound. Thanks for a great tip!

Thank the Volvo Gods yourDad is ok, Phil. That will not buff out
The thermostat that came out had the same Wahle markings and a Volvo brand on it.
I've heard Wahle thermostats rarely fail, if they do, it's a fluke.

Finished double Muffin delivery back to college..I got the nice Smith delivery. 2 hours turbo over the Berkshires, SWMBO got the ugly Bryn Mawr delivery 4.5 hours past NYC. SHE took the E83 slush box and didn't catch much traffic, thankfully.

Tried to revive the 2002 XC70s 2.5 year old battery that has gone flat 4 times through lack of use.

Tried a trickle charge 4 times of 5 hours 700ma and it seems the voltage is going up.

Been looking online at the Epsom salt revival technique; very interesting. Seems it has another use apart from the bathtub.

Not to my Volvo.... but I raided every pick it place Black Friday for every piece of good interior trim I could get my hands on 1-2 dollars each. I am going to clean and retro-brite them. Then be ready for a spring reupholstering project.

That said I AM STRIKING OUT HARD GETTING GOOD WOOD TRIM PIECES. Either they are all water damaged under the up holder, or cracked from bad attempts to remove them.

The center console piece is the hardest to find in good shape. It took me a while to get that piece when I swapped my GLT to wood trim.

I did a couple of things to my 1999 s70.

First, I finally took care of my passenger side door warning light. I had the part for 6 months and finally swapped it in.
it took 10 seconds so I don't know why I waited so long. No more worrying about it falling out and flopping around.

I also replaced a passenger side mud flap.

This was due to my old one being destroyed when my car had an encounter with a curb. The best part of this job is I taught my son how to use a rivet gun and he thought that was pretty cool. He said using it was "very satisfying". I was happy to hear that since one of the goals I had when I bought this car was to use it to teach my kids some mechanical skills.

Are these available from dealer? I put them in place with double-sided tape but new lights would be very welcome.
