1999 V70 ignition switch reassembly help needed

Post by juggles »

I'm embarrassed to be asking this, but I was attempting to replace the ignition switch in my '99 v70 (base). Apparently, Volvo used 2 different switches that model year, and the part I got was the wrong one. The old one was working but I've been having some electrical problems and I was hoping that replacing the switch would solve them.

Here's the embarrassing part -- in taking the old one out and trying to compare it to the one I thought should be replacing it, I took the cover off of the old switch. Little yellow plastic bits rained down on my driveway. Now I'm trying to see if I can reassemble the old switch so that the car will be driveable, since I kind of need it tomorrow and no one in town has the correct part in stock.

Can anyone help?

Thanks. I tried searching earlier but couldn't find a way to narrow the results to where I could find anything useful ("ignition switch" gets a lot of hits). I'm got a replacement coming tomorrow and unfortunately, I didn't see this until it was too late to resolve it tonight. But it's good information to have, regardless.
